Janice Stein

Janice Gross Stein is a Co-Founder of Goodbit.


Janice is the Belzberg Professor of Conflict Management in the Department of Political Science and the Founding Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and an Honorary Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was the Massey Lecturer in 2001 and a Trudeau Fellow. 

She was awarded the Molson Prize by the Canada Council for an outstanding contribution by a social scientist to public debate. She has received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from four universities and is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.


Janice Gross Stein has served in advisory roles in Canada and internationally. She was a member of the Committee on International Conflict Resolution of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., and a Member of the Committee on International Security of the American Academy of Science. She served as a Member of the Advisory Committee to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and the Canadian Judicial Council. She served as a Vice-Chair and Member of the Board, Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation and as a Member of Rumie, a start-up that creates opportunities for digital schooling to poorer people who are excluded from schools around the world. She was one of three people advising the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development when the Department amalgamated with CIDA and became Global Affairs Canada in 2013-2014. 


She is a regular contributor to CBC, TVO, and the BBC, and writes a column for the Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper.
